The standards behind clinic care

Clinics answer to their provincial college, their ministry and provincial privacy law. Here is a summary, with British Columbia first.

Professional regulation

Nurses and allied professionals must be registered with their provincial regulator. Nurse practitioners and nurses working in expanded roles follow the regulator's practice standards.

British Columbia (our home province)

Private medical and surgical facilities are accredited through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC under its Non-Hospital Medical and Surgical Facilities Accreditation Program.

Alberta

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta accredits non-hospital surgical facilities and other medical facilities, with reassessment on a four-year cycle.

Ontario

Out-of-hospital premises are assessed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Community surgical and diagnostic centres are licensed under the Integrated Community Health Services Centres Act, 2023, which replaced the Independent Health Facilities Act.

Reprocessing and infection control

Clinics performing endoscopy and surgical procedures follow the Canadian standard for medical device reprocessing (CSA Z314) and provincial infection prevention requirements.

Privacy

Clinics hold personal health information under provincial privacy law, for example PHIPA in Ontario, the Health Information Act in Alberta, and PIPA in BC for private practices. Placed staff are expected to follow your privacy policies.

This is a summary. Your clinic's college and ministry remain the authority.

Where clinics run short

Procedure-day coverage

A missing scrub, circulating or recovery nurse can cancel a list. We focus on dependable procedural coverage.

Skills fit

Clinic roles need independent judgement. We screen for clinic experience.

Competing with hospital hiring

Many nurses prefer clinic schedules. We help you present the opportunity.

Growth and new sites

New clinics and expanded surgical capacity need a team quickly. See workforce outsourcing and direct hire.

Shift and coverage models

Per diem and relief

Cover absences and busy days.

Contract

Fixed term for leaves, new program starts and seasonal demand. See contract and relief staffing.

Permanent

Full-time or part-time clinic roles through direct hire.

Most ambulatory work is daytime, Monday to Friday, with some extended and weekend clinics. Urgent care and after-hours clinics run evenings and weekends.

Clinic work with a more predictable week

Many clinic roles have regular daytime hours, though demand varies. We will be honest about which roles have that pattern and which do not.

Frequently asked questions

Do you place nurses for endoscopy and day surgery clinics?

We recruit for procedural clinic roles. Tell us the procedures, the equipment and the certifications your lists need, and we will look for matching experience. Endoscopy, operating room and recovery roles each have their own role page with more detail on what we look for.

Can you fill a single day or a short block?

We can look at per diem and short-term coverage for absences and busy days. Availability varies by role, location and notice. Tell us the date, the procedures and the skills you need, and we will say honestly whether we expect to be able to help.

Do you place nurse practitioners in clinics?

Yes, where the clinic and province support nurse practitioner practice. Nurse practitioners follow the regulator's practice standards in their province. See our Nurse Practitioners role page for more detail, or send us your clinic model and we will talk through what is possible.

How do you check qualifications?

We confirm provincial registration with the regulator and review certifications and relevant experience before we submit a profile. You still run your own credentialing. If your clinic requires procedure-specific training or particular certifications, tell us at the start so we can screen for them.

Does it cost nurses anything to work with you?

No. Free for candidates. Always. Clinics pay for our service. We never charge nurses or other clinical staff to submit a profile, to be matched or to take an assignment. If anyone asks you to pay, it is not us.

I only want daytime work. Is that realistic?

Many ambulatory roles are daytime, but demand varies by clinic, procedure type and province. Urgent care and after-hours clinics run evenings and weekends. Tell us your preferences when you submit your profile, and we will be honest about what we see and what is available.
