What a registered nurse does

RNs assess patients, plan and deliver care, administer medications, coordinate with physicians and teams, and teach patients and families. Scope is set by each regulator, so the exact authorized activities vary a little by province.

Assess and plan

Health assessments, care planning and clinical judgment.

Deliver and coordinate

Medications, procedures and monitoring, with delegation to licensed practical nurses and care aides.

Teach and advocate

Patient and family education, discharge planning and escalation.

Contract, relief or permanent: pick the fit

RNs are regulated province by province

Every RN must hold a current licence with the regulator in the province or territory where they practise. If you are moving between jurisdictions, your registration does not simply carry over: each regulator has its own application, fees and timelines. Facilities should know the licence is checked at the source, not taken on trust.

We do not currently place in Quebec.

Regulator names change often, so always confirm details on the regulator's own site.

Our verification promise: We verify licence status with the relevant regulator before submitting a candidate. We do not guarantee any hiring outcome. For more on how we check documents, see our credentialing and compliance page.

Internationally educated nurses: Registration is handled by the provincial or territorial regulator. We can point you to the right starting place, but we cannot register you.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be licensed in the province before you will talk to me?

For most roles, yes, or at least be in the process of registering. Tell us your current status, the province you want to work in and your timeline, and we will tell you plainly what is possible now and what may need to wait for your registration.

Can I work in another province with my current licence?

Not automatically. You need to register with that province's regulator. Labour mobility rules can help, but each regulator sets its own application process, fees and timelines. Start early, and check the regulator's website for the current steps before you plan a move.

What exam do new RNs write to register in Canada?

Most provincial and territorial regulators outside Quebec use the NCLEX-RN as the entry-to-practice exam. Your regulator confirms exactly what applies to you, including any other requirements, so check with them directly before you apply or book an exam sitting.

Do you place RNs for contract, relief and permanent roles?

Yes. Contract and relief staffing and Direct Hire are both available, depending on the facility and region. Tell us which arrangement you prefer, and whether you are open to more than one, and we will match you to the roles that fit.

Do nurses pay you a fee?

No. It is free for candidates, always. Facilities pay for our service. You will not be asked to pay to submit your profile, to be matched with a facility or to accept a placement through us.

How do facilities request RN staff?

Use the Request RN Staff button and tell us the unit, shifts, dates and any certifications needed. We then source and verify licensed RNs, and you review profiles and interview the candidates you like before deciding how to fill the need.
