Dietetics is regulated in every province

A dietitian must be registered with the regulator in the province where they practise to use the title "registered dietitian".

Dietetics is regulated in all ten provinces. It is not regulated in Yukon, the Northwest Territories or Nunavut, though employers there may still ask for provincial registration.

Entry to practice is a bachelor's degree from an accredited program, supervised practical training, and the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination (CDRE). Dietitians of Canada is the national association, not the regulator.

The word "nutritionist" is treated differently depending on province, so employers should confirm that a candidate is a registered dietitian.

Our process: We verify registration with the regulator before presenting a candidate. Read more on our credentialing and compliance page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a registered dietitian and a nutritionist?

Registered dietitians are regulated health professionals. Use of the word "nutritionist" varies by province. Employers filling clinical roles should hire a registered dietitian, and we only present candidates whose registration we have verified with the provincial regulator. Tell us your situation through the candidate or employer form and we will give you a straight answer, with no obligation.

Do long-term care homes need a dietitian?

Requirements are set by provincial legislation and vary by province. Ask your provincial health ministry or regulator for the current rules that apply to your home. We can help you plan coverage once you know your requirement. Tell us your situation through the candidate or employer form and we will give you a straight answer, with no obligation.

Do you place dietitians on part-time or contract hours?

Yes, where employers have a need. Many dietitian roles are part-time. Tell us the hours you want, or the hours your home or program needs, and we will let you know what we can offer under contract, relief or permanent arrangements.

Do you recruit dietary aides or food service staff?

Our focus is registered dietitians. Tell us about other needs through the employer form and we will say if we can help. Tell us your situation through the candidate or employer form and we will give you a straight answer, with no obligation.

Does it cost anything to submit my profile?

No. Free for candidates. Always. We are paid by the facility, never by you. You can submit your profile, talk through roles and decide on introductions without paying anything at any stage, and there are no placement fees or hidden charges on your side.

What do you do with my personal information?

We use it to match you with roles and verify registration, with your consent, and we follow Canadian privacy law. Nothing is shared with an employer without your permission, and you can ask us what we hold about you at any time. Read the details in our Privacy Policy.
