What physiotherapists do
Physiotherapists assess, diagnose and treat movement, function and pain. They work with people recovering from surgery, injury or stroke, and people living with chronic conditions.

Rehabilitation

Physiotherapists must be registered where they practise
Registration clarity matters to both candidates and employers, so here is how it works.
A physiotherapist must be registered with the regulator in the province where they practise. Registration in one province does not automatically allow practice in another, although labour mobility rules reduce the paperwork for many PTs moving between provinces.
Since January 2026, the national entry-to-practice exam is the Canadian Physiotherapy Examination (CPTE), run by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR). It replaced the earlier Physiotherapy Competency Examination.
Internationally educated PTs: CAPR assesses credentials first, then the provincial regulator decides on registration. We can point you to the right starting point but cannot speed up the regulator's process.
Our process: We check the public register or confirm with the regulator before presenting a physiotherapist. Registration can be conditional or restricted, and we will tell employers what we find. Read more on our credentialing and compliance page.
Moving provinces? You apply to the regulator in the province where you will practise.
