How diagnostic staffing works

  1. Tell us what you needThe modality or discipline, shift pattern, systems, province and start date.
  2. We verify credentialsWe check registration and national certification status before presenting a candidate.
  3. You review a short listCandidates see department and shift details first.
  4. Start and follow-upA relief shift, contract block or permanent hire, with follow-up after the start.

Lab and imaging registration by province

Rules differ by province. Where a regulatory college exists, technologists register with it. Where none exists yet, employers usually require national certification from CSMLS (laboratory) or CAMRT (medical radiation technology). We check what applies in each province.

Medical laboratory technologists

Nova ScotiaNova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technologists
Newfoundland and LabradorNewfoundland and Labrador College of Medical Laboratory Science

Medical laboratory technologists are not currently regulated by a college in British Columbia, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Employers there generally rely on national certification. For Prince Edward Island, we confirm the current status with each candidate and employer.

Prince Edward IslandCollege of Allied Health Professionals of Prince Edward Island
Newfoundland and LabradorNewfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals

British Columbia and Manitoba do not yet have a regulatory college for medical radiation technologists. BC has announced that radiation therapists will be regulated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC under the Health Professions and Occupations Act from November 29, 2027, with other disciplines left for a later phase. We confirm the current position with each candidate.

Good to know: Departments also work to accreditation and quality standards set by their health authority or employer. We do not currently place in Quebec.

Lab and imaging staffing challenges we hear about

Round-the-clock coverage

Labs and emergency imaging need nights, weekends and holidays, which stretches small teams.

Specialized skills

MRI, CT, nuclear medicine and microbiology benefit from modality-specific experience, so a general fill may not fit.

Equipment and software familiarity

Each site uses its own systems, so orientation time matters.

Waitlist and backlog pressure

Imaging backlogs and expanded hours in some regions create temporary demand for extra shifts.

Rural and small hospital sites

One or two technologists may cover a full facility, so a single absence needs a relief plan.

Coverage models for labs and imaging

Relief and per-diem shifts

Weekend, night and holiday coverage.

Short and long contracts

Leave replacement, backlog projects and new equipment ramp-up.

Part-time and fixed-day roles

Community labs and imaging clinics.

Permanent placement

Longer-term hires for lab and imaging teams.

Direct hire placement

For short-term cover, see relief and contract staffing.

For lab and imaging managers

  • Pre-checked registration and certification
  • Candidates screened for modality and system experience
  • Terms in writing

For high-volume needs, ask about managed staffing programs.

For technologists

  • Choose your modality and setting
  • See shift and site details first
  • Free for candidates. Always.

How we are different

We verify credentials

We verify registration and certification and say so. It is a check at a point in time, not a guarantee.

We are clear about terms and fees

Candidates pay nothing. We are paid by the facility.

Lab and imaging staffing questions

Do you place both lab and imaging staff?

Yes. We place medical laboratory technologists and medical radiation technologists, and we can discuss other diagnostic roles case by case, such as sonographers or cardiac and neurodiagnostic technologists. Tell us the department and the discipline, and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

Is national certification enough to work in any province?

No. In provinces with a regulatory college, provincial registration is also required, and a technologist who moves provinces registers with that province's regulator. National certification comes from CSMLS for laboratory and CAMRT for medical radiation technology.

Can you cover night and weekend shifts?

We can look for relief staff for those shifts. We do not promise a specific turnaround, because availability depends on the modality, the province and the market. Giving us as much notice as you can, along with the systems your department uses, helps us find a good fit.

Do you place into community clinics as well as hospitals?

Yes, both, depending on province and need. That includes community labs and collection sites, private and publicly funded imaging clinics, and cardiac, pulmonary and sleep diagnostic services. Tell us the setting and the shifts, and we will scope the search from there.

Does it cost technologists anything to use your service?

No. Our service is free for candidates. Always. Facilities pay fees, which are agreed in writing up front. You will not be asked to pay to submit a profile, to be considered for a role or to be placed.
