Ontario
Long-term care homes follow the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and O. Reg. 246/22. Anyone hired as an Administrator needs a post-secondary degree (three years or more) or a health or social services diploma (two years or more), at least three years in a managerial or supervisory role, and demonstrated leadership and communication skills. They must also have completed, or be enrolled in, a long-term care home administration or management program of at least 100 hours. The regulation sets minimum weekly on-site hours by home size. Retirement homes are separate: they are licensed and overseen by the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority under the Retirement Homes Act, 2010.
British Columbia
Licensed residential care falls under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act and the Residential Care Regulation (B.C. Reg. 96/2009). The licensee names a manager for the facility, and the regulation asks for staff in the role to be qualified by training and experience. It does not set a fixed credential for the manager.
Alberta
Under the Continuing Care Act and Continuing Care Regulation, type A and type B continuing care homes must have an administrative leader who oversees all services, including accommodation services such as food, housekeeping, administration and maintenance. Homes may use a different title for the role.

Direct hireFrequently asked questions
Does an LTC administrator need a licence?
There is no single national licence. Requirements come from the province and the type of home. In Ontario long-term care, for example, the regulation sets education, management experience and a 100-hour administration program. We confirm the rule before the search begins, so every candidate presented meets it.
Can you search for an administrator without telling the team?
Yes. We approach candidates directly and keep the mandate confidential. We do not post the role publicly unless you ask, and at the briefing we agree who in your organization is told what, so a leadership change can be planned quietly.
Do you place administrators in retirement homes and assisted living?
We can discuss it. Requirements and regulators differ for each. In Ontario, for example, retirement homes are overseen by the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority under the Retirement Homes Act, 2010, separately from long-term care. We confirm what applies to your home at the start.
Can you supply an interim administrator?
We can discuss interim leadership through our contract and relief staffing service. Availability depends on the region and the need, so we talk through what is realistic for your home, including whether interim cover should run alongside a search.
Do you guarantee a hire?
No. We verify and manage the process. We do not promise outcomes. We check qualifications and required experience before a candidate is presented, and the hiring decision stays with you at each step.
